Decorative painting on a wooden pen

I have arthritis and write calligraphy with pointed pen. My husband makes me ergonomic nib holders. I would like to paint designs on them. Will any acrylic paint do? Will the paint alone be enough to hold up to the ink and water?

Decorative painting on a wooden pen

I had no idea what a nib holder looked like so I Googled it. The handle can be painted on bare, sealed wood with acrylics and then protected with 3 to 4 coats of varnish.

Since the handle won't be sitting in water you should be OK. I don't imagine you need to submerse the holder do you? Is it not just the nib?
