Painting on wood

Thank you for all your work and emails. I do read them but haven't actually tried the toll painting but I really want to give it a try. I have been painting for 2 years and really like the folk art. I am going to toll paint a couple wood boxes, an oar that can be hung with a scripture on it. also a plaque with another scripture. But my question is how to prepare the wood. I have some White Acrylic Gesso would that work before I add the background?

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and with it raining it just seems to be the best time for me to do art. Hope your Thanksgiving is a happy one.

Preparing Wood for Painting
by: Cheryl

Hi Debra,
Yes, acrylic gesso would work as a sealer. Sand the wood smooth. Wipe off the dust. Then apply the gesso. Let it dry and sand again, wiping off the dust. Paint to your heart's content! :o)
