I have beautiful hand carved wooden mermaid. (I know all the other guys are jealous.} I would like to paint it, but don't know if the wood should sealed or treated with something or to just start painting, If it needs a sealer what should I use?

I use DecoArt All Purpose Sealer. Depending on the type of wood she is made from, the grain will rise which means you'll need to sand her down. This may take away any sort of very fine carving details. So keep that in mind.

If you were to paint directly on the raw wood, the same thing would happen.

I hope this helps!
