Underground Activity

Mixed media, acrylic, oil markers on 16x20 canvas
There are many variations of the rustic tree, but as I was painting this one, it occurred to me that there is much underground activity which contributing to the beauty we see above ground. I tried to convey some of this activity through tangles.

Answer to Keleigh's question

Keleigh, thank you for the kind comments. It is very hard to have a regular micron pen (used for Zentangles) show up on an acrylic painted surface. They may work on watercolors. I used oil markers by Sharpie with extra fine points. I am not new to painting, but I am just starting to "tangle" I love exploring the way you can combine tangles with other easily identifiable subjects you may have painted, in acrylics or watercolors. I am currently working on a big, red poppy with tangles. Good luck on your tangling.

Question
by: Keleigh

I am learning tangles. I tried putting on canvas but the pens skip on the textured surface. How did you prep your canvas to be able to do the tangles? I love this painting! The tangles were perfect to express the organic action under the surface.
