prep for wood figurine

I'm waning to paint over a wooden figurine from Jamaica that has a shiny finish on it. I would like to use a flat latex paint but am unsure if a light sanding will be enough prep?

Prep wood figurine

Hi Lisa,

Cheryl here (fellow Canadian) from Your Decorative Painting Resource...

You'll need to sand it, apply a primer and then paint it. I don't personally use latex paint for this kind of application, preferring acrylics.

Alternatively you could use DecoArt's Chalky Finish paint or Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint. No need to sand. Just paint over the figurine.

I hope this helps.
