Painting silverware

Do you have to clean the tarnish off silverware before painting? What's best priming first, spray paint or chalk paint? Have teapots, coffee pot creamer and sugar bowl and assorted trays to paint

I would remove the tarnish. Then wash the silverware in hot soapy water (not lemon scented). Rinse well, dry and then use a hair dryer to completely ensure all the moisture is gone, especially if the silver is ornate.

Spray on a metal primer and then paint to your heart's content.
