Color-leading experts have this to say about color trends for 2010.

There will be a strong influence from the need for healthier lifestyles and home-grown foods. People are much more aware of their connectivity with the planet as a whole.

We're returning to farmers’ markets and organic food vendors. These are the venues providing luscious palettes. Rich colors like tomato paste, deep red wines, tart lemons and crisp green apples.

Think of mustards like Dijon when you envision yellows, and imagine the redness of Chilies and chutneys. These are colors that excite the eyes and stir up an appetite!

The continuing need to protect our world and to better manage our natural resources has a great influence on color as well.

The colour of grey timber, deep amber and turquoise bring to mind earth and sky, while orange lilies and mauve orchids punctuate the scenery.

Our modern attitudes are influencing traditional looks. We gravitate toward deep-water blues, creamy mints, lilacs, mauves, violets and budding greens against a backdrop of warm pinks, soft gold and light amber.

Our senses are awakened by the color of toasted coffee beans. Soothing cognac also provides a central color theme. We’re attracted to stonewashed denim hues, soft sage, cool pinks and neutral stucco.

The color trends for 2010 are heavily influenced by Africa’s huge continent and its incredible complexities. Look for earthy greens as well as cool greens, smoky blues, sand, curry, and mauve tones and even for the sheen of copper.

Look to the northern night sky for the deepest blues, turquoise, orchid and deep gold…the colors of the Aurora Borealis…silver, violet, bright greens.

Overall there is an undeniable push toward the purples, mauves, fuchsia and pinks. Blues have a big influence too. Flashes of tangerine, hot pinks, yellows sparkle the palette, as do metallic silver, gold and some copper. Neutrals like champagne and raw linen are used over large spaces.
